RAA’s 2017 Risky Roads campaign

RAA’s 2017 Risky Roads campaign called for all road users - motorists, cyclists and pedestrians – to identify roads or intersections they found confusing, difficult to negotiate or that make them feel unsafe.

Main South Road and Oaklands Rail Crossing have been identified as South Australia’s riskiest road and intersection, respectively.

More than 2,900 nominations were received from across South Australia, covering many of Adelaide’s arterial roads, and extending into regional areas including the Limestone Coast, Clare Valley, and Yorke Peninsula.

More than half (58%) the road nominations were to report uneven or undulating surfaces, followed by pot holes (44%) and crumbling road edges (38%).

Intersection nominations focus on a lack of crossing or turning opportunities (46%), confusing layout (43%) or inadequate traffic signals (26%).
