RAA's 2021 Risky Roads campaign
RAA's 2021 Risky Roads campaign called for all road users – motorists, cyclists and pedestrians – to identify roads or intersections they found confusing, difficult to negotiate or that make them feel unsafe.
Main South Road (Aldinga – Sellicks Beach) and the Curtis Road/Heaslip Road intersection were nominated as South Australia’s riskiest road and intersection, respectively.
More than 2,100 nominations were received from across South Australia covering roads across the state, with 6 of the top 10 roads nominated located in regional areas. In total, 262 roads or intersections received more than one nomination, with 38% of nominations for roads or intersections in the top 10 lists.
Almost three quarters (72%) of road nominations reported road surface issues, highlighting the need for additional road maintenance funding whilst almost two thirds of intersection nominations cited road design issues.
