RAA's 2024 Risky Roads campaign
RAA’s Risky Roads survey gives South Australians a voice on road safety by identifying key trouble spots across the state through community nominations of risky roads and intersections.
More than 1,800 nominations were received from across South Australia covering roads throughout the state. In total, 346 roads and 378 intersections received at least one nomination, with 47% of all nominated roads or intersections represented in the top 10 lists.
In the five years before the 2024 survey (2019-2023), 77 lives were lost, and 4,094 people were injured on the top 10 risky roads and intersections.
Key issues raised include road maintenance, road capacity, and unsafe intersection design.
Curtis Road was nominated as South Australia’s riskiest metro road in the 2024 campaign, while Victor Harbor Road was nominated riskiest road in regional SA. The Heaslip Road and Curtis Road intersection in Angle Vale was nominated as the riskiest intersection.
